en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_of_Gilgamesh#Tablet_eleven TIL that the earliest piece of great literature, The Epic of Gilgamesh, includes a story in which Utnapishtim is told to build a ship to save the animals of the world from a great flood. Nearly 2,000 years later, a similar tale with different names appeared in the Bibles book of Genesis. Gilgamesh went on a quest to meet Utnapishtim, who was granted immortality, along with his wife, for building the ship and saving his family, craftsmen, and all the animals of the field, by the god Enlil (who was responsible for the flood, and initially angry that there were survivors before being castigated by the other gods for sending a flood in the first place.) Its appearance in the Epic of Gilgamesh is in reference to the much earlier Epic of Atrahasis, which ends with Atrahasis (Utnapishtim in the Gilgamesh epic) building a ship to escape Enlils flood being send to wipe out humankind.
