from FLIC: TODAY at 5:30 p.m., the Senate will be voting for cloture, which means they will close the debate on the Immigration Reform bill (S. 744) and will have a final vote this Thursday, June 27th or Friday, June 28th. WATCH LIVE! Last Friday, the Senate Gang of 8 came to a compromise on the bill to include a Border Security amendment drafted by Senators Corker (R-TN) and Hoeven (R-ND). This basically turned S.744 into a bill that still grants a very long and tough path to citizenship, but also doubles the number of agents at the border and commits to even tougher border security at the expense of thousands of families who are terrorized daily by border patrol and the expense of millions of our taxpayer dollars. We denounce that the new senate bill has comprised the future of millions of immigrant families in order to make anti-immigrant politicians and rich companies happy. BUT... we are moving forward with this debate and we hope to see the bill passed because we love our families more than we like this bill or the back-room politics that created it. If the house makes this bill any worse, it will destroy the real spirit of immigration reform. Every step this bill takes towards anti-immigrant politicians is a step away from immigrants, their friends and families, and the power of their votes.
