from a 15 year old transgender youth tonight: The death of Leelah was certainly not the way 2014 should have ended. Leelah was a smart and sweet girl who didnt deserve the pain and torment she was given whatsoever. Its a shame what her parents have done and what they continue to do, even after her death. But, Leelah left us a look into her life and what she would want us to change for the better future. Im so happy Leelahs law is in action because theres kids out there who have to go through what she went through. Once I came out, my parents no longer allowed me to wear masculine clothing, and going to a catholic school eliminated counseling. Ive had a friend who was only 15 have to move to her best friends house because she was transgender. Leelah told us to fix the number of transgender people who have committed suicide, but first we need to educate, educate, educate, and thats exactly what Leelahs death and Leelahs law are already doing so that suicides dont happen. There is always hope and there is a way. Conversion therapy needs to be put to an end. Resources need to be made for lgbt kids who are sent to the streets. Parents need to be educated on what being transgender means, as well for the new generations of children on the topic of gender. Leelah surely wont be forgotten and I know this law will make history, and Leelah would most definitely be proud. Leelah will make history. I give my best wishes to anyone suffering right now and wishes to Leelahs family and friends.
