given the recent news about Robin Williams, I feel compelled to - TopicsExpress

given the recent news about Robin Williams, I feel compelled to share this blog post I wrote a couple of years ago. For the few of you who dont know, I have experienced this first hand. In my early 20s I was dealing with some things...or rather, not dealing with things. I was at the edge of the abyss and felt I had nowhere to turn. This is a hard thing for me to share but I feel its important. I had 2 suicide attempts in the course of a year. Many of you walked that path with me and didnt let me falter. I want to say (yet again) thank you to all who were there. This is something that I wrestled with and was silent about it for too long. Thats part of what makes this such an insidious battle. Far too many people are afraid to share their experiences for being fearful of appearing weak. But Im not weak. I am strong because I found my way out. A couple of years ago I had a stranger reach out to me (which is what the blog post is about. Last year I had my dear friend Raela Marie Villanueva ask me to speak at a Seeds of Hope benefit. I have had countless people tell me that they felt there was hope because I admitted my past and reached out and said it was ok to ask for help. This is a blog post I made when this stranger reached out to me. If any of you ever have even a MOMENT of feeling you cant take it anymore, please know that Im there for you and will ALWAYS take time to lend an ear, give advice or just offer a shoulder to cry on. Please know there is ALWAYS help, there is ALWAYS someone who loves you and there is ALWAYS a way out of despair. Much love to all of you. And may we all learn from the tragedy of Robin Williams suicide. Thank you for listening. Life is too amazing to take it for granted. It takes a STRONG person to admit that theyre at the end of their rope. Please reach out...to me, to a therapist, to a friend, to a stranger. There are MANY local and national resources out there for you if you feel like you cant talk to anyone you know. The National Suicide Prevention Hotline is 1-800-273-8255. I encourage you all to share and reach out if you or anyone you know needs help. There is no shame. Only honor in asking for help. sayzabee.blogspot/2011/12/suicide-and-strangers.html
