good day to you all. yesterdays topic started with THE IMPORTANCE OF SCRIPTURE AND GETTING TO KNOW IT That statement is half of where the true promise is.... think about these two statements and see if they are in fact the same. is to grow in the knowledge of the scriptures and to grow in the knowledge of God. the same statement or not? suffer me to say it is not. the one leads to the other although the one all by itself does not guarantee that eternal life, nor that grace and peaces multiplication will be the result. what do i mean? this is where being conscious of something and being compliant with it becomes a critical factor. a person suffering from health risk is sometimes conscious of what they should eat but whether they comply therewith is another story altogether. a man may know what marriage should be like but whether he complies with that knowledge is another can of beans. Jn5:37-40 Christ speaks to the Pharisees and teachers of the law... Joh 5:37 And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, Joh 5:38 and you do not have his word abiding in you (non compliance yet conscious thereof), for you do not believe the one whom he has sent (choose otherwise than what is plainly stated). Joh 5:39 You search the Scriptures (get to know the scriptures) because you think that in them (just knowing the scriptures) you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, (that talk about me, that point you to me) Joh 5:40 yet (but) you refuse (will not) to come to me that you may have life. Paul says to Timothy... 2Ti 3:14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 2Ti 3:15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings (known the scriptures), which are able (has the ability) to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (but you choose what you do with that scriptural knowledge - do you come to Christ or continue in your old way of life).... knowing, consciousness is not enough, we need to become compliant with what the scriptures reveal to us Joh 6:44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. Joh 6:45 It is written in the Prophets, And they will all be taught by God. Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— this means that the scripture has a message and it is God the Father instructing us how to get eternal life but we have to follow what the Father tells us through the word/scriptures. so in a sense one can know the scriptures but still miss eternal life, because one can hear what it says yet refuse to obey it. so growing in the knowledge of the scripture is good but God the Father tells us what to do next... here is where Peters scripture reference comes in ... grace and peace be multiplied to you...HOW? in (through) the knowledge of God (through your understanding of what the scriptures reveal as you study the scriptures diligently) take note the knowledge of God as revealed through the scriptures - not just the knowledge of the scriptures. Finally.... Wise or Foolish? Luk 6:46 Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and not do what I tell you? Luk 6:47 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: Luk 6:48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. Luk 6:49 But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great. enough for today... just knowing the scriptures or studying it diligently is half the goal, it must be obeyed too. prayer: Father it is imperative that we learn scripture so that we put it into practice. thank you for your strength to do it.
