In a nutshell it looks like rain for the coast, including the Washington-New York-Boston corridor, and snow relegated to Interior New England where there will be enough cold air locked in place. Of course we are still a couple of days out from the event and the features responsible for this storm are just entering the west coast of North America. Although it is still not out of the question that the rain/snow line could be closer to the coast, the odds of that scenario happening continue to lessen. Timing-wise, I expect rain to develop along the Mid-Atlantic to New England coast Sunday into Sunday night, the AFC playoff game will be impacted by rain and possibly wind. Snow develops back in the cold air across parts of Upstate New York to Northern New England with the heaviest snow from the Adirondacks through northern Vermont and northern New Hampshire. Note, there could be other impacts as well along coastal New England. Heavy rainfall on frozen ground could produce flash flooding. If an easterly wind develops, even for a brief period of time Monday morning, those onshore winds during high tides could produce coastal flooding. The heavier snows are confined to the higher elevations of Upstate New York (Adirondacks) through Vermont and New Hampshire with no measurable snowfall for the coast. Heavy Mountain Snows For Pacific Northwest This Weekend Several inches of snow are likely through the Bitterroots Friday night as the first of two systems cuts across the Northwest from the Pacific. The second system will bring copious moisture from the Pacific across the mountains Saturday into Sunday. Snow levels will start out around 7000 feet Saturday but by Saturday night they will begin to drop down toward the 3000 to 4000 feet range. Total snowfall across the Cascades could exceed 3 feet in some areas and as much as 12 to 18 inches is likely through the Bitterroots to the Tetons. Passes Sunday morning will be impacted as those snow levels drop. Sunday Nights Forecast Mondays Forecast Rainy Forecast Rain will spread northward Sunday from parts of the Carolinas into the big cities of the Northeast, including Sundays AFC Championship football game in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Right now it looks most likely that the I-95 corridor from Boston to Washington, D.C. will see rain, while locations farther inland will see snow. There is a chance that the rain may change over to snow before ending on Monday close to Boston and New York. (FORECAST: Boston | New York | Philly | DC) The rain will also be heavy at times as moisture is drawn northward bringing the risk of nuisance local flooding from the eastern North Carolina to parts of eastern and southern New England, depending on the low track. Frozen ground in the Northeast may exacerbate runoff from the soaking rain. Wintry Side The computer models used for forecasting are not in agreement with the exact track of the low pressure system. This will make a big difference in where snow will fall. According to The Weather Channel winter weather expert Tom Niziol: It is still much too early to predict the exact location and amount of snow that could occur from this system, especially given the fact that the weather features that will produce the low are still several thousand miles to the west. It is most likely that wintry conditions will be found inland and any significant snow may fall in parts of upstate New York and northern New England Sunday night and into Monday. There may also be some lake-effect snow on the backside of the system. (FORECAST: Syracuse, New York | Burlington, Vermont | Worcester, Massachusetts) There may also be a transition area of sleet and freezing rain, most likely in central New England and parts of eastern New York. The wintry conditions may make travel difficult, especially Sunday night. (MORE: The Difference Between Sleet and Freezing Rain) Some light snow may also fall Sunday and Sunday night in parts of the Ohio Valley and Appalachians as the previously mentioned cold front moves through the region. Most of the rain and snow will exit the Northeast early Monday, with just a few showers lingering in northern New England.light rain diffrent parts of those area western bc canada western washington western oregon northwestern california northern idaho western montana state parts of eastern sea broad state all way up mamie state marinetime canada 60-100% heavy rain 3-12 inches of rain flooding possbilty for western bc canada washington oregon northwestern californi and eastern sea broad state winter snow storm for alaska state northern yukon canada all way down bc canada western alberta canada washington oregon truckee donner pass california state idaho western wy state western montana state newfoundland canada 6-20 inches of snow blowing and drifting snow visibilty be at 0 very dangerous drving and snow pack and whiteout icy roads condition bizzard warning for alaska state nu canada 3-6 inches of snow blowing and drifting snow visibilty be at 0 very dangerous drving and snow pack and whiteout and icy roads condition snowfall for higher mountain or flatland alaska state all way nu canada western canada washington oregon northern california state salt lake city utah northern colorado state wy state idaho montana state nd state minnsota state fort france and thunder bay ontario canada west virgina maryland state 4 great lake area wisconsin gary and elkhardt fort wayne indania state ohio michigan state parts of ontario canada pa state ny state upper eastern state border line quebec canada 3-12 inches of snow blowing and drifting snow visibilty be at 0 very dangerous drving and snow pack and whiteout and icy roads condition lake effect snow for northern wisconsin northern indania ohio michigan state ontario canada ohio pa state ny state eastern ontario canada 3-12 inches of snow visibilty be at 0 very dangerous drvig and snow pack and whiteout and icy roads condition frezzing rain for alaska state southern bc canada eastern washington state eastern oregon state western idaho state elko nevada state minnsota state 4 great lake area bay city michigan state port huron michigan state southern ontario canada 1-3 inches of frezzing rain very dangerous drving and icy roads condition high wind warning for western alaska state all way nu canada western canada minnsota state upper mid western state all way parts of western state all way new mexcio texas oklanhoma kansas nebraska colorado wy state iowa missouri state 4 great lake area wisconsin il state indania ohio michigan state ontario canada all way new england state vermont state manie state quebec canada eastern canada 23 or 45 mph winds windchill warning for alaska state yukon canada nwt canada nu canada northern sask northern manbitoa canada 4 great lake area michigan state ontario canada ohio pa state ny state upper eastern state quebec canada marinetime canada -31 or 0 very cold weather for yall frost warning for alaska state all way nu canada northern sask northern manbitoa canada 4 great lake area michigan state ontario canadaohio pa state ny state upper eastern state quebec canada marine time canada black road icy condition very dangerous drving on icy bridge condition foggy or ice foggy for bc canada washington oregon state nebraska kansas texas colorado utah az state new mexcio iowa state minnsota state visibilty be at 0-2 miles very dangerous drving and thick possbilty foggy or ice foggy condition right till by morning lift off by afternoon be caution keep eyes on it yall tune weather channel weather network wx cb radio scanner weather radio cell phone or desktop or laptop tablet weather for yall be safe drive safe god bless yall bigger both thumbs up drivers everybody else here :) 10-4
