great comments by Marc Macyoung Im going to take a little different approach. Starting with rights come in bundles. Things like property rights are one bundle and freedom of speech is another. Quite often different sets of rights ... run into one another. For example someone has the right to free speech, but you have property rights. So while someone has the right to free speech, he or she cant kick your door in and start haranguing you in your front room. One set of rights doesnt categorically supersede another. And often a working compromise has to be worked out. For example someone can picket your home or business, but must stay on the sidewalk, keep moving and not interfere with people entering or leaving your property. Breaking these standards is actively interfering with other peoples rights. Where things really cross the line is when behaviors create danger to others or interfere with others doing their job -- especially police. You do NOT have the right to disobey a lawful order from the police. Screw squealing about what abouts, what ifs, unjust laws, and taking it to extreme examples (e.g., cops raping you). When you are given a lawful order by a LEO in the execution of his/her duties, failure to obey is a crime. Get over it, thats how the world works. Cops are taught to use a pattern of ask, tell, order. Sir would you please step out of the car?Sir. Step out of the carSTEP OUT OF THE CAR NOW! First it is a you catch more flies with honey than vinegar approach. (Would you please?). But second, is it establishes an escalating -- and describable -- pattern of resistance to a lawful order. Which in turn, justifies the use of force. Now lets add something else into the equation. There are varying degrees of force. Not only are these scaled to resistance/danger, but -- and this is something most people dont understand -- theres a big difference between pain and injury. This is important because the higher levels of force are more likely to cause injury, if not death. That is why they are more restricted. I tell you this because while tazers hurt like hell, they are very much lesser force levels. They seldom cause physical injury, much less death. The problem is if you dont know this youre going to get hung up on the screaming. Yes the person is in pain, but thats because his muscles are locking up. Basically the electricity causes a body wide muscle cramp. How much noise do you make when you get a cramp in your leg? I did something different than what I am assuming other people did. I watched the video with the sound off first (before reading the this is what happened to me). I watched it again with the sound on, then I read that guys story about what happened. Heres a hint, when the cop says Were past that, and the guy responds No were not! mixed with Youre under arrest and the guy starts saying he has done nothing wrong, that situation was heading for a use of force. Not because the cops were oppressive pigs, because the guy was so fixated on what he was doing and self-righteous about why he was disobeying lawful orders. Heres a news flash, the time to protest how you were treated by cops is later. This either by filing complaints or in court. The latter especially goes for if you think its an unjust law or unlawful order. You want to be a civil rights activist? Hey Rosa Parks was a coordinated set up by the NAACP. It started the Montgomery Bus Boycott, but the case that struck down that particular Jim Crowe law was settled IN COURT -- and Parks was not named in the case. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montgomery_Bus_Boycott en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browder_v._Gayle So heres the problem, WAY too many people think theyre going to argue for their rights with the cop. Theyre going to argue what they are doing is a right and the cops cant stop them or tell them what to do-- because damn it, what Im doing is more important. So Snowflake here was on his way to help his autistic kid, but was such an ass he ended up getting tazed and arrested? Yeah, that really helped his kid.
