#hampaslupa The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Tuesday assuaged the fears of many residents that a tsunami might happen after a massive earthquake jolted Bohol and affected many parts of Visayas and Mindanao on Tuesday morning. The epicenter is on land so we dont expect significant effect on the sea water, explained PHIVOLCS Director Renato Solidum on ANC. At 8:12 a.m. Tuesday, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the province of Bohol. The quake was tectonic in origin and occurred 2 kilometers southwest of Carmen town. Solidum said that in case there was something unusual, residents would have seen it 10 minutes after the earthquake happened. Yung threat wala na. Kung meron man nawala na. We dont expect one and if ever there were some minor disturbances it should have happened within 10 minutes, he said. Meanwhile, Solidum encouraged authorities to have buildings and house strongly shaken by the earthquake inspected before allowing people to return to their work and homes. I would like to recommend to the local government officials and disaster managers to have the different buildings inspected before occupancy in areas at least felt with intensities of 6, he said.
