… have launched one of the biggest criminal probes into the House of Lords after Lord Hanningfield was caught “clocking in for cash” by the Mirror. Our investigation found he was ripping off the expenses system by claiming £300 per day for just minutes in Parliament. When confronted by the Mirror last year, he said: “I could name 50 other peers that do it.” Officers from the Special Inquiry team at Scotland Yard have now opened a criminal probe into the actions of Lord Hanningfield and others. Campaigners believe it could be the tipping point that leads to major changes in the Lords. Labour MP Michael McCann said: “If a constituent of mine clocked in and disappeared they would be sacked – no ifs, no buts. “If other members of the Lords have participated in this behaviour, they have to be identified and dealt with.” Lord Kennedy said: “It is right that police are looking again at his outrageous abuse of expenses. mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/huge-police-investigation-launched-house-4695866
