hello everyone... Today ... Steve N Sue Arkell and I were in the mountains, at the edge of the rocky mountains for a hike. This adventure I never had done before. We went up 6000 feet ( 2 km) up! . At the edge of the mountain we did start to hike. The first part it was not very steep but really slippery. Every step I took I was aware of not falling. After 20 min the climb did start. For more than 1 hour we climbed up on the mountain. As you see in the pictures is was to start to snow and it was foggy... While I was hiking, the oxygen level dropped down. To breath in the condition is harder. It really does affect and it makes already a difference on this height. Specially when your heart rate is more up. While we went up, we saw a doe (deer). She was around 7 - 10 meter in distance of us. It was special to me. Because I never saw wild life in Canada before. Not even 10 min after that, Steve saw and heard a bear roaring but did run away. I was a bit more behind, so I didnt see it. When we were up on the mountain, the view was stunning and really beautiful. The snow on the mountains and the clouds below us. I felt really small at that moment, but at the same time I was standing in awe. The wonder and beauty of the nature is breathtaking. After a little break we start to go down. It was really slippery and I didnt had traction. the spikes that I had of the traction were gone, fell off while I was hiking on the mountain. Anyway, I had to take care of every step on the way downhill. Steve had traction, he was walking easier downhill. He was head away of me and I was walking slower and more on my own. I didnt feel to catch up. I was more concerned not to fall down of the mountain. One bad move and I was laying down on my butt. I did fell a couple times pretty hard. My tale bone is still sensitive. :S :( One point I was alone and suddenly out of the nowhere I heard a bear roaring at me. He was about 25 meter away from me. I was standing still and pointing out with my eyes where it came from. I saw in the bushes a shade in a form of a bear that was looking at me. It is harder to see the difference what is animal and a tree or a bush. My heart skipped a beat! I was on that point pretty scared and run away towards Steve, I had not clue how far he was ahead of me. I didnt care about the icy surface under my feet that moment. He did hear it too and stopped. Steve was maybe 150 or 200 meter away from me when we both heard the roaring bear. I felt more save when I was standing next to him. He was looking around if he came after us. After this frightened situation we both were looking around if the bear didnt followed us. Fortunately the bear didnt. We were pretty sure it might be a Grizzly bear. Because it was a really deep low and loud sound. I was more aware where I was walking and was looking around. We came in safety back to the car. I was really glad I made it safe back. My legs were shaking of tiredness. At home was Nicola waiting. Thanks Steve.. I learned a lot today and a whole new experience.
