"hippie gathering" ... one way to diminish / tarnish credit is to attach stigma-enhanced words and thus make people less likely to care/read/respect the news. When the G20 came to town not once did a major news corporation say "fatcat gathering" or the like. "hippie gathering" serves the same purpose as the N word did during slavery and other terrible words that exist to this day simply to attach a negative image / sense of disrespect towards a story.
