host Joe Scarborough suggested that President Obama went golfing after his angry speech against Islamic State for beheading American journalist James Foley just to send a message to terrorists. On Morning Joe Thursday, Scarborough said terrorists would likely view Obama as “one cold bastard” for golfing in spite of their attempt to disrupt American life. “They are negotiating with Spock with a pitching wedge here,” Scarborough said, referring to New York Times columnist Maureen Dowds description of Obama. While American’s would criticize Obama’s decision, Scarborough suggested that it might be part of a greater message strategy. “I’m merely pointing out these are horrible, horrible optics domestically, but internationally… for terrorists, its basically like screw you. Screw you, we’re not going to live by your rules,” he said, recalling President Bush’s call for Americans to go shopping after 9/11. “I’m sure Barack Obama would say, you know, if we cant go golfing at an exclusive golf course at Marthas Vineyard, then the terrorists have already won,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it,” Scarborough said, but suggested that Obama’s actions could send the right message. “In this case, as maddening as that may seem, it may work,” he said.
