As you might know, one of the things the Harry Potter Alliance has focussed on for the last several years is their campaign called Not In Harry’s Name. Four years ago, an independant report came out, saying that the way Warner Brothers manufactured their Harry Potter chocolate was unethical and non-transparent, and the company received an F grade in human rights. This would be awful regarding any kind of chocolate, but it was especially awful because these practices go directly against any of the values in the Harry Potter books. Ever since then, the HPA, an organisation called Walk Free and J.K. Rowling herself, have pressured Warner Brothers to find ethical sources for their cacao. AND YESTERDAY, WARNER BROTHERS ANNOUNCED THE FOLLOWING: ‘By the end of 2015, and sooner when possible, all Harry Potter chocolate products sold at Warner Bros. outlets and through our licensed partners will be 100-percent Utz or Fairtrade certified.’ This is an AMAZING victory for fan activism! Together we made this possible! Warner Brothers admitted it, our support is important: ‘We value and appreciate the collective voice of the Harry Potter Alliance members, and Harry Potter fans all over the world, and their enthusiasm and love for the world of Harry Potter.”
