i love boxing so much and i follow this boxing page and this was written by the guy who helps run the page I would love to hear your guys thoughts on this Do black fans take black boxers for granted? Latino and hispanic fighters follow their fighters and support them, therefore, you can see and feel how the fighter fights for them. When Chavez Sr. was down in a fight, you constantly heard Do it for your people! Do it for your family!. Even when Canelo fought Floyd, he seemed so focused on doing it for his country. Ricky Hatton and many others from the UK are proud of their fighters and fill up 50k plus venues in support. As for black fans, it seems like their is a certain HIGH expectation for any black fighter that is worth a damn. I have never heard a black fighters corner tell him Do it for your people or country!, not even the African fighters! When Gerry Cooney fought Holmes, Davenport told Cooney America needs you!...... I just figure after so many years of dominant boxing by black fighters, there is now a certain expectation and anything less is embarrassing and not acceptable. I dunno. Now thw Chinese are in the boxing game. You can be sure they will support in droves as they did with Yao Ming. They are a collectivist culture so its only natural. The last time I can remember even hearing about consensus support of a black fighter was Joe Louis & Max Schmeling! Anyway, just a thought. Nothing controversial in this topic, just an inquiry. -
