imdb/title/tt0092106/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2 With all the fuss at the moment about Transformers: Age of extinction (for the record, it entertained the primitive side of my mind that enjoys splosions and mindless robot action for just under 3 hours, 3/5) I thought Id go back to where it all began. So Id like to take a minute, just sit right there, Ill tell you about how a Transformers movie should fare. Whilst I didnt see this until many years after it came out, I still consider it one of my favourite childhood movies. For a movie (and arguably an entire franchise) designed to sell toys, it still ticks all the boxes for a classic 80s movie. - Rockin Soundtrack - Two tracks by Stan Bush for added extra 80s flair - Check! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Transformers_The_Movie:_Original_Motion_Picture_Soundtrack - Epic battles - Check! - Tragic death of a main character (right up there with Im a leaf on the wind as far as Im concerned) - Check! - Quotable lines a plenty (eg. One shall stand, One shall fall) - Check! The plot line is fairly straight forward. A giant planet-sized evil Transformer, Unicron (Voiced by Orson Wells...yes *the* Orson Wells) is headed our way and our heroes bust overcome their darkest hour in order to survive. Along the way several of our favourite Autobots have their sparks extinguished, causing the young Hot Rod to find out if he really is leadership material. With notable voice roles from Eric Idle, Judd Nelson and Leonard Nimoy (Yup, his Transformers connection well pre-dates being related to Michael Bay!) It stands the test of time! Yes, its a little cliched, but Its still one of my all time faves! 5/5 (Dont judge me!)
