it was quite the diverse group of children tonight at the playground. there were white kids, black kids, Indian kids, Mexican kids - kids w/ cool shoes and kids w/ cheap shoes, geeky kids and the athletic kids. one of the neatest things about being a parent i think is seeing the morals you teach your kid(s) play out in a real-world situation. tonight at the playground, Kayden was playing w/ all the kids (every type), leading them in various games. during a game of tag, a young girl about Kaydens age but heavier and obviously slower mentally, was having a hard time keeping up. after Kayden finally got rid of her it status, she spent the rest of the round running side-by-side w/ this little girl and always making sure she stayed right w/ her. the girl played every game w/ the rest of the kids and even got to be queen of a castle a bit later. during a water break, the dad called her because it was time for the girl to leave. after she came to her fathers side, they made their way to us on our bench (which, by this time all the kids had moved their bottles and drinks to our bench where Kayden was). while the girls said their goodbyes, the dad shook my hand and said thank you. i dont like coming to the playgrounds because it kills me to see my daughter playing by herself and watching others have fun. because of your daughter, my daughter experienced friendship tonight. such a great time and im so proud of Kayden leading by example tonight. being rejected is probably the worst feeling in the world. its something i never do to anyone and it doesnt appear the littlest Damron is going to make it a habit, either.
