jai hind saathiyon..! December 3, 2014 (Wednesday) Several prominent dalit personalities joined the Aam Aadmi Party in presence of former chief minister and party convenor, Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, during the launch of the AAP’s SC/ST Delhi wing. Among those who joined the party include Dr Kaushal Panwar, assistant professor of Sanskrit in Delhi University. Her life story was featured in Aamir Khan’s popular TV serial Satyamev Jayate in the episode on untouchability and caste discrimination. A close of former Prime Minister Late VP Singh, Chaudhary Itwari Lal, who was associated with his Jan Chetna Manch also joined the AAP. BSP Delhi state unit treasurer Ho Ram and MCD safai karamchari union leader Ashok Kumar Anjana, too joined the party. Addressing the programme, Kejriwal said justice, respect and equal rights for the weaker sections of the society are crucial for development of all. He said Keep India Clean (Swacch Bharat Abhiyan) campaign can only succeed in case it was taken beyond symbolism and that is possible only by giving respect and importance to the safai karamcharis. Kejriwal said it is a matter of shame that even after 67 years of independence, safai karamcharis are working in inhuman conditions. He gave the example of workers entering sewers to clean them despite presence of poisonous gases there, which has claimed many lives and leads to severe skin diseases. He said government policies must reflect respect for all and discrimination against none. He thanked the Dalits of Delhi for showing their support towards the AAP, which was reflected in last year’s assembly elections. AAP MLA from Kondli, Manoj Kumar will head the party’s SC/ST wing of Delhi. Cheena Ji Maharaj and Prem Pahari will be among the patrons, who will provide guidance to this frontal organisation.
