lone justice-featuring maria mckee wheels Day 4 and number 4 of 5 faves, also a bit of a curve ball - not withstanding that you all probably think I dont like much recorded after 1989, but we still have time to sort that. This song is just sublime, a simple cowboy chord sequence ( think C G D C ), but with a great, almost epic but still spacious piano arrangement, fantastic lyrics sung by Maria McKee from a soft lilt to Janis-esque Jazz wailing in the bridge (Em here - ?). There there is the obvious country feel to the song, tinged with some Deep South gospel backing vocals, the conservative guitar licks (lots of delay, which admittedly was all the fashion at the time) but most of all the story and the image of lost or unrequited love wallowing in the house and the sound of those Wheels. From the album Shelter by Lone Justice, which would easily make my top five albums, if not top three, here it before you die.
