may 29 2014 BLACKPOOL RANGERS TOURNAMENT WINNERS Team: Jennings, Hart, Barron, Coupe, White, Riley, Scott, Enright. Goals: Scott x5, Hart x4, White x4, Enright x3, Riley x2, Coupe x2 MOM: Hart + Scott The lads went into the Blackpool tournament desperate to put a shocking result v Mill Hill behind them. After being embarrassed by an ordinary team nothing but victory would do for the most successful Rossendale team ever. Teams from all over the North West enter the famous Blackpool tournament and they would require some beating. The team put forward was absolutely rammed with quality, versatility and determination and we opted for an attacking but balanced 3-1-2 formation. The first game was won 2-0 against a technically very strong Blackpool academy mainly U9s team. They wanted technical so the Pumas gave them technical back. It was the new strike force of White and Scott who combined for the first and Riley chipped in with the winner. The pumas continued to impress winning 4-0, 2-0, 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0. Not for the first time the Pumas had reached a final without conceding. Scott was running them ragged and Hart was unbeatable. Jennings was quiet but like a cat when called upon. Barron was covering like he had played for 10 years and Riley was winning every battle. Coupe marshalled the defence and started attack after attack. White was up and down the pitch spraying passes and linking play. Enright kept his position and played the simple pass, he slowed it down, switched play, sped it up and controlled the tempo better than he ever has. The weather came in and the tournament had to be cut short. The two best qualifiers got to the final and it had to be settles on penalties. Coupe stepped up and was advised to hit it hard and low, use the surface and guide it in. Being the wonderful listener he is with a nerve of steel he rattled the opening penalty off the crossbar with the subtlety of a sledge hammer. The lads from Leicester Cities Academy buckled and put it wide. Up stepped Hart, it was never in doubt and the tremendous footballer from Bacup slotted it in the bottom corner. Then Jennings came into his own two consecutive saves meant that White could seal it. With over 500 games, 200 goals, 20 penalty shootouts, 52 tournament wins the Haslingden lad slotted home the winning penalty like many times before. A brilliant way to forget the week before and open up the summers trophy collection.
