mini review: Wild Nothing at Metro gallery 6/10 - Wild Nothing at the Metro Gallery last night was a special treat as expected. The fog machine set the scene of a soft cloud in a dream... Soft pinks and blues were floating about and so were the skinny kids in the crowd. The intimacy of the Metro gallery and the captivating ambience created by the sublime blending of melodies by Wild Nothing made it a gem of a show. Wild Nothing played a nice selection of common favorites from both albums and the latest EP and I think everyone was happy with that. Locals Wildhoney put on a tight shoegaze set striking a balance between noise and melodic airy pop. I thought it was cool when a crowd member asked “what’s the name of your songs” and the lead singer said “uh, well this one is number 4. It’s my favorite” and shrugged. Twin Tigers was a new experience for most I think. There were moments of edgy greatness that would swing into catchy high energy rhythmic rants, but it’s the often lengthy lulls in between and the unfamiliarity that had the crowd wavering a bit during the set. Also noteworthy, was Twin Tigers disciplined use of lighting. The three options were one white light set up on the drum kit with a small blue light on the front array of pedals, the single blue light (basically, no lights), and a white strobe. There was obviously a set song correlated strict regime for where and when which light option would be use, the white light on the drum kit was the main staple with the strobe used oh so sparingly.
