my baby dove and sibling. both flew/fell off ledge in afternoon yesterday. (i adjusted a protective coup) . I retreived the stronger one. Shocked i could not find the smaller one. (Though I had not felt well, I was on my way to a Grease theater production in N. C. -this became ,u nite and morning) I could not sleep knowing i lost one. up at 1st light.....He was on my grass!! A long stretch past the pool for a fuzzy winged dove. i went to grab him and off he went towards the LAKE!!! Bushy Bushy. I was so sleepy. Went sadly back to bed. ( PARENTS flew to check on the one in rafters.....i did not see them land and take care. 4 hours later I was back up and crawling under the lake deck and thru mangroves. I heard a slight burping noise. .....checked the reflection of brush from water. Know the edge of the lake and the colors were shades of gray. Broke a few branches before they got me. I saw him/her. clinging -soaking wet / clinging to a stone on waters edge. at water level. Making sure I had to grab him and get him........ I am tearing so happy I got him. All wet ( half salt water with mangrove snapper and barracuda fraction of inch under him in water. Ran him back to a pan with a heating pad and towels. Gave water. Let him warm up. reintroduced his sibling ...gave water to him gave both a meal they liked. put them back up in the rafters. they are head to head together on the outside of coup. They look content. It is hard to know how old they really are. How long the parents will participate. ? I had homing pidgins in elementary school, actually they had been my brothers.,I took over in 4th grade. I am sorry I missed my Grease opening in North Carolina, directed by Carol Culver- our head dancer/actor and Patty Simcox on Broadway now at Carolina Broadway Theatre Company. I had not been well and I could not except I could not make it. I hate saying NO. Glad the Doves did make it. .
