Subject: Open Letter to Shri Narendra Modi and Dr.Harsh Vardhan, I Shri U T Khader write this note as the Health Minister of Karnataka to bring the below 4 suggestions to your kind notice and for your immediate consideration to protect the citizens of India who face this imminent threat from Ebola virus and to avert it. 1) At present we are effectively screening for Ebola virus in both our international airports at Bangalore and Mangalore. However most of these flights from Africa do not land here and hence it would be best to be improve vigilance at Delhi / Mumbai which are the first point of entry. 2) Could we consider sending the team of health experts to African countries of origin of this disease where our experts can screen and quarantine these patients in International airports heading for India rather than screen them at destination. 3) Patients identified and quarantined in this manner could be directed to a identified center for treatment these ailments specifically in that country of origin OR if identified in India, quarantined at an Tertiary Care Govt Health Center in New Delhi / Mumbai which could cater to these specific patients by making exclusive and special arrangements. 4) We need to send a strong message to reassure citizens that it is not an airborne transmission and we are taking adequate measures to ensure safety of our people.
