Typical practices to try to improve that soil are to blanket fertilise with inorganic products such nitrates or phosphates. When you do this, you overload that plant with nitrate or phosphate, for example. The animal then comes along, eats that plant, & consumes a large amount of nitrate & phosphate. This leads to undesirable nutrient interaction, disrupts the delicate microflora balance and can lead to significant health issues.
