of Muhammad Ali fight-worn gloves - Ali’s (then Cassius Clay) gloves from his February 25, 1964 bout against Sonny Liston and his gloves from his March 8, 1971 bout against Joe Frazier (Ali-Frazier I) – each sold for $385,848 in a SCP Auctions’ November auction which concluded early Saturday. The sale of these two items sets a world-record price for any piece of boxing memorabilia at public auction. The Angelo Dundee Estate Collection of boxing memorabilia, more than one hundred items spanning the breadth of renowned trainer Dundee’s extraordinary career, brought in more than $1.3 million. Jim Dundee, the late Angelos son, plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale to the Muhammad Ali Foundation and the auction will also help the Dundee family fulfill Angelos wish that necessary medical care be provided and funded for Jims sister, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. The remainder of the fall auction will conclude Saturday evening, including The Ozzie Smith Collection of baseball memorabilia highlighted by his 13 Gold Glove Awards from 1980-1992, the personal basketball memorabilia of Basketball Hall of Famers Sam Jones, Oscar Robertson and David Thompson, The Paul Hornung Collection of football memorabilia, a Babe Ruth’s c. 1922 team sweater, a Mickey Mantle’s 1964-1967 model game-worn jacket and a legendary T210 Old Mill Joe Jackson card.Full Dundee Collection results are available at scpauctions, as is current pricing for the remainder of the auction.
