on the one hand: another site Im on gave me the impression that I was simply trying to connect to other people already on the site that I had email addresses for in my outlook contact list that matched up with email addresses that they had in their system, which was not the case- I actually ended up sending a number of invites to people in my contacts who are NOT on the site already. on the other hand: sending out a mass apology reminded me of the best practice of sending to another of ones own accounts and bccing (blind carbon-copying) the other intended recipients, plus the failed delivery notices are giving me the opportunity to go through my contact list and weed out those email addresses which are no longer actually active, something that I might do on my other accounts sometime when I have time for it...
