...pineapple piñata After a long day of sail training and a seamanship test, ELISSAs volunteer crew enjoyed a Caribbean Luau fun muster featuring Caribbean pot luck dishes, rum and beer, and some entertaining events. We started off with the best Hawaiian shirt/dress contest followed by a live auction of the contents of the lost and found box. Around sunset the very popular pineapple piñata and Limbo contests took place with the winners of each event receiving a wonderful bottle of rum. The pineapple piñata is a contest of great skill. The contestant is armed with a belaying pin to use as a means of opening up the pineapple and releasing a small charm bracket hidden inside. All of this done while standing on one leg and wearing a pair of safety googles with the right lens blacked out with paint. The pineapple survived the onslaught of about 9 contestants before giving up its prized bottle of rum donated by Galvestons own Economy Liquor. The Limbo contest was once again hotly fought with many crew members displaying their limber and lithe bodies honed by hours of kneeling down on footropes while passing sail gaskets. On board was rope mat shuffle board on the beautiful new main deck. I never knew shuffleboard could be viewed a s a contact sport! Many thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers for making it such an enjoyable and very tasty evening... both the food and the rum.
