rate my poem out of 10# BORN POOR BUT RICH IN MIND I looked at the beautiful street lights of Johannesburg They promised life and protection But all I could feel was fear and lifeless I stood in silence, without knowing where my next meal would come from Although I had hope, my heart was full of self-oppression Sometime I would visualize my birth and think, maybe I was a mistake All I could ever taste were my tears I had no choice, but to mollify myself I persuaded every chance of life that I got Until I had the courage to Salvage my life Day by day, step by step, piece by piece I hustled hoping that the steps I took yesterday could lead me today I had big dream to pursue and missions to accomplish A dream to make the impossible, possible A dream to sore the seeds of revolution, the seeds of success To light the candle of life for those who are behind to see the way through Am now proud to stand up on my feet and say, the difficulties of life intended to make me better instead of bitter I guess the sky was my only limit Thats why my voice can be heard and my presence can be felt Am glad honesty and positive thoughts contributed in building the new me Everybody can say i have been through hell, but I say am a survivor, not a victim of negative past experiences Infect being victorious is something else, but being able to express my feelings in a broad and apprehensive way, is my favorite part of my poverty experience My advice-: dream big, know where you are going and never hesitate to stand up for what you believe in.
