so dr parhik said that kyles endoscopy came back. He does have - TopicsExpress

so dr parhik said that kyles endoscopy came back. He does have some irritation. That they really cant tell if its from the cdiff or gvh. He will be sent home. We will continue the medicine that treats cdiff for at least month he said. He also said it does appear he does have mild gvh because of the symptoms. But at this time he doesnt think its best to start steroid treatment due to all the side effects. An the GVH seems to be very mild right now. Side effects are not very good. One is that it lowers the immune system very low which could cause his HHv6 to come back. Which was the virus that got into his brain. That almost caused him of his life. Another is Because of Ald. The steroid treatment has side effect to cause you to loose your muscles mostly in the hip area where it starts. Mostly leaving patients not being able to walk or difficulty to walk. An with having Ald Controlling your muscles is already problem. This could cause some of the symptoms of ald to activate. So Dr parhik will over look him again in two weeks to see if he has approved on anything. we are also going to start some feeds on his gtube. HE will also be started on medicine that will make him eat. And he has been put on creams and some oils for his head to clear up this dry skin rash. And he also went back up on the dosage on cyclosporine. Thats also immune suppressant that controls gvh. So lets pray that kyle has more up days than down. So we want have to start and steroid treatments for gvh. As in the medicine world the side effects can cause more of problem than the initial problem. Definitely when you have such monster as adrenoluekodistrophy living in you. just some facts.. Kolby and Kyle can still get symptoms of Ald. It can take up to year or possibly more for the transplant to fully work. So he can still get symptoms of Ald. Most of the symptoms actually advance faster due to treatments such as chemo and medicines. Only way to confirm that the Ald is stabilized is to have no progressions on MRis. This is why it so important for ALD to be monitored and caught of ahead of time. Mostly after Symptoms advance to certain point you are not candidate to a bone marrow transplant. Graft vs host disease (GVH) is an immune attack on the recipient by cells from a donor. The main problem with transplanting organs and tissues is that the recipient host does not recognize the new tissue as its own. Instead, it attacks it as foreign in the same way it attacks germs, to destroy it. If immunogenic cells from the donor are transplanted along with the organ or tissue, they will attack the host, causing graft vs. host disease. Everyone that transplant has gvh. Its just how its controlled with immune suppressant. You take the Immune suppressant so that way the donor cells can grow slowly. Suppose to it all at once making the cells take over the body causing severe symptoms and mostly resulting into death.
