so i have Dolapo Ogunwale to thank for this poem. written today, to be read (most likely) at Loudthotz Poetry on thursday evening. this is first of my new focus on verses of the heart. enjoy... Hey Romeo, let’s see where life leads Let’s see whose tales on which this heart feeds Let’s see if it finds appetite enough to consume a whole field Let’s see what harvests this seed of yours yield Let’s see without staring Let’s see if deeds, match what ears are hearing Let’s see if the birds sing your song Let’s see if this soul succumbs, which will mean to you I belong Let’s see without glaring Let’s see if this flame is from gas flaring Let’s see if there’s oil floating on water Let’s see if we can sleep without bother Hey Romeo, let’s see if this heart will stop roaming If you are the sugar to pour sweetness into thoughts when lonely Let’s see where our fights lead Let’s see for how long you flee When I throw my pans to the wall Let’s see how well you dock, or if having balls, To you mean my tears will fall on blackened eyes Let’s see what happens, if after getting high The summit feels like suicide, if we dare descend Let’s see if your scars are decent If the wounds beneath still hurts Or if by your pain, you are spurred Spurred to once again create the past Let’s see if your memories make me an outcast Let’s see if you also think first loves don’t die Let’s see if you are only bidding time If you’ll once again go back to where your die was first cast Let’s see if your being with me, is your head flogging your heart Let’s see if to you I am art, eternal in value, timeless in meaning Hey Romeo, don’t think I am in doubt, I just need you to convince me Life isn’t sweet, when the rest of it is spent paying for the past’s follies Better it is to be lonely, filled with hope Than to be crowded by woes… Akeem Adetayo Oyalowo August 11, 2014
