so someone posing as FPL called my shop this morning claiming that my electricity was going to be shut off if I did not give them a payment within the hour. I logged into my FPL account and verified I did not owe them any money and when I called the number back to tell them I didnt owe any money they asked for my bank account routing number for verification. Luckily Im smart enough that I laughed at them and told them they were clearly a criminal trying to steal my information, they insisted they were FPL and needed my bank account number I said good when I call back to the number i have for FPL we will get this figured out. I called FPL, there was no problem with my account and low and behold it is a person trying to run a scam to collect bank account numbers. So if anyone calls you telling you that your power is going to be shut off and asking for your bank account number do not give them your bank account information! I have called and reported this to the FBI and there is an open investigation because evidently this is happening a lot in our area.
