so, without pointing fingers (@United Airlines) when I arrived at DTW from newark, I Tweeted about my cruddy travel experience where the gate agent made me pay $50 for my bag and my sons bag despite the fact that we had paid with a United credit card which has my name on it. She showed me the fine print saying only the primary card holder of the account gets this privilege and told me to call Chase, the issuer of the card. I did. They first told me to open a card in my own name. (uh, no.) Then they pointed fingers at United. At one point I had Chase customer service on the phone while I stood at United Customer Service at their hub in Newark and both corporations said it was the others fault. I arrived into Detroit $50 poorer and they had wrecked my bag. Naturally, I Tweeted this irony with a photo of the damage and lo and behold! United tweeted back that I should have gone to the baggage repair office. I tweeted back that I had a friend waiting to pick me up. They said (like it is my fault they wrecked my bag) too bad, I should have gone to bag-repair office. So today, I got dropped off at the airport early to stop into the bag repair area. They took one look and laughed at me: no way, said the lady, we dont cover handles or anything at all. Your bag is intact says she. On top of this, I just had to pay another $50 for transporting said bag that no one can lift (given it has no handle) back to NYC. Well, is all lost? The other perk of paying $95/year for the United Chase credit card (besides waiving NONE of our luggage fees) is two free passes to airport lounge. I had them. Figured a free coffee would make me at least feel a tiny bit better. I went to the airport lounge that three United employees directed me to, and guess what? these United lounge passes dont work in Detroit. Thanks for all of NOTHING United airlines. I am delighted to switch my loyalty to JetBlue Airways. I always secretly liked them better anyway.
