sometimes you step into an area and just know something special is there waiting for you. you can _feel_ it. you may not know what it is, but you look for it anyway, and soon enough it will reveal itself. in the case of this northern water snake, it was a little of both: i knew there would be a snake—i felt it—i just didnt know what _kind_. i entered the area slowly and quietly while scanning all the spots ahead of me that a snake might find particularly interesting, and there it was, sunning itself on a rock in front of a waterfall. perfect! after a few preliminary shots, satisfied that i had at least documented it, i moved in closer for a more artistic shot. mr. snake was, for the most part, very cooperative, and i ended up with this shot of him warily eyeing me with a strand of the sparkling waterfall in the background. https://500px/photo/82003671/northern-water-snake-|-hanging-rock-by-doug-sanchez?from=user_library
