Your special article is well timed and also reflects your concern about goodwill of Mamata Banerjee to do something special for the Lepchas in the Darjeeling at Kalimpong area.Yes it was a very good move by the CM of Bengal who at last realised that the Lepchas were a VERY MUCH DEPRIVED CLASS in their homeland in Darjeeling. But this realisation came a bit late when Gurung suddenly demanded Gorkhaland covering the area from Darjeeling to Dooars for the last 3 Months when Centre decided to Create Telengana. When Mamata banerjee came to power in May,2011 she agreed to form GTA with Gurung and an Agreement on this account was made by her with Gurung and the Centre.The relation at that time was in a very jovial mood and both Leaders were praising each other and talking about the speedy development of Darjeeling areas.But at that time the plight of the Lepchas never occurred in the mind of the CM as it suddenly appeared in her mind during her last visit where she declared so many doles for the improvement of the conditions of the Lepchas which she could have realised Long back while assuming the power in Bengal.But it was not done.When the relation between her with Gurung, who is a Gorkha, became very sour she turned her attention towards the Lepchas.and declared abundant Freebies to the Lepchas as if the coffers of the Govt.was overflowing with uncountable funds,whereas the roads of the entire State was in a very poor and unplayable condition.The Headlines in TIMES CITY ran like this on 3rd Sept.2013 "GOOD ROADS?
