tags: IMPORTANT, ateneo de manila, college (students), philippines, campus politics, CRU please read guys (also please endure my not cohesive writing) i’m not affiliated with our student council or any political party in the loyola schools. i know it’s september, the sem is already coming to an end, and whatever you’re busy with i’m pretty sure it’s not really related to ‘politics’ unless i guess if you’re a pos major or taking the core subj. well, have you read “the other ateneo”? here’s a passage: … “Ateneans” are doing terrible and unspeakable things that should shame us. Ateneans are out there thinking that money is more important than service. Ateneans are out there thinking that their education was the entrance fee of being elite; rather than the privilege of learning how to be a person for others. the author, prof brian paul giron, wrote about the two ateneos he knows; one is the ateneo that ‘many are familiar with’ and the other is the ateneo he loves... (‘It is an Ateneo that insist on teaching humanities because it believes in forming people instead of just producing professionals.’) aside from the marcos issue that brought about this article, another political event i would like to bring up is the campaign season. i’m a sophomore and last year i didn’t really care about the elections but still voted. i was surprised by the failure and maybe even more surprised this sem when the quota was reached. back in high school i saw student councils as just ‘pakulo’ not exactly functional. and i suppose that’s true in hs. i went to ateneo not just for academic excellence but for its so called holistic formation. my parents are hopeful that this university can help me grow spiritually and i like that. back to sanggu, i haven’t attended any meeting de avance but heard of stuff that happened. my secret now is that i don’t like ignite. and i love crusada. i’m no political analyst but i can say that crusada is way better than ignite. christian union for socialist and democratic advancement; wow. i actually researched on socialism and democracy. crusada is truly a political party, it’s the only accredited party in ateneo and rightfully so. if i were a politician, i would run as a candidate under this party. i did some research on its advocacies and stands on other issues. i have friends who like ignite because crusada is intense and too serious about things. but guys, crusada’s caption “This space is reserved for things bigger than us” is true. i mean this is the ateneo! as ateneo students, we have to do things big and do bigger things. ignite is like the political parties of the philippines that don’t stand for something solid, they’re all the same with basic platforms. i understand that activism is not exactly promoted here, but nation building implies to demand difference (so fight with crusada haha). the student body seems indifferent about politics but it shouldn’t be. i’m so much into natural and applied sciences yet my favorite class this sem is SA. at the end of all this, i wish as ateneo students and future atenean alumni when we are called to directly impact the nation we will be more socially and politically concerned. as early as now i believe we can participate in national issues. from crusada: Its time that we use the privilege we were given for things greater than this university. thank you for reading (im not good with words but you can know more about crusada and reflect on our schools student government, and learn for yourself why the philippines needs us and what we shall do) p.s. i hope i can meet irl one of the former party premiers who i stalked haha - TACO, SOM, BS MGT, 2017
