takwana-kwana imomo muHerald macho. Thanx Sharuko Robson Sharuko Senior Sports Editor ZIMBABWEAN football fans have launched a scathing attack on SABC sports anchor, Thomas Mlambo, for his comments at the weekend in which he questioned the Warriors’ pedigree to write a success story at the African Nations Championships. Mlambo, a veteran television presenter who used to work for SuperSport, drew the ire of the fans when he claimed the Warriors didn’t deserve to be in the quarter-finals and, after scoring just one goal in their group matches, didn’t deserve a place in the last eight. The comments have triggered a huge storm with scores of Zimbabweans bombarding Mlambo’s Facebook page to express their anger and demand an apology after the Warriors defied the odds, and the journalist’s naïve assessment, to beat Mali and qualify for the semi-finals in Bloemfontein tomorrow. That the Warriors beat a Mali team, which topped Group A from where Bafana Bafana failed to qualify, leading South Africa’s Sports Minister, Fikile Mbalula, to label them a “bunch of losers”, has not only cheered the spirits of the Zimbabwean football fans, but given them the ammunition they needed to hit back at Mlambo. “What I saw was not a problem of coaching, it was a bunch of losers,” Mbalula told a news conference in Cape Town a day after Bafana Bafana were eliminated following a 1-3 loss to Nigeria. “Their performance was not even lacklustre, it was useless. We must go to the drawing board. That mediocrity that was displayed yesterday . . . we must never wake up to that again. “We have a crisis of monumental proportions. We don’t have a crisis of talent, we have a crisis of putting everything together. I felt like just standing up and walking out. “I saw people lining up after the game to greet them . . . I won’t greet them, I didn’t even call them.” Bafana Bafana won only one game, in Group A, when they beat Mozambique and were lucky to settle for a 1-1 draw against Mali with the hosts being awarded a penalty, for an incident that happened outside the box, while the Eagles were denied a clear-cut penalty. South Africa’s failure has been put into context by Zimbabwe’s success story given that while Bafana Bafana were able to use some of the players who play for their regular national team, like skipper Itumeleng Khune and midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala, the Warriors fielded a team that featured a group of rookies making their debut at such a continental tournament. Former Warriors captain Moses Chunga claims the South African broadcasters have always given local football a raw deal and questioned the absence of a Zimbabwean voice, on SuperSport’s Soccer Africa weekly television show, which has been dominated by the CHAN tournament, given the success of the national team. Peter Ndlovu, the most successful Warriors’ skipper of all-time, who led his country to two appearances at the Nations Cup finals in 2004 and 2006, currently works in South Africa and could have been used as an authoritative voice, by SuperSport, in discussions related to the Warriors’ performance at the CHAN finals. Another former Warriors’ midfielder, Edzai Kasinauyo, also works in South Africa but their voices have been ignored by SuperSport even though the broadcaster usually brings in authoritative voices from the countries whose teams would be doing well at a particular tournament. Former Warriors’ coach Norman Mapeza was the last authoritative Zimbabwean voice to appear on Soccer Africa after his team defeated Mali 2-1 in the battle for the 2012 Nations Cup finals. At least, the Soccer Africa panel, notably award- winning South African journalist Thomas Kwenaite, has celebrated the Warriors’ stunning success story at the CHAN finals where Gorowa says they are now flying the flag of Southern Africa against two West African giants and a North African side. This is in sharp contrast to Mlambo, who appeared to undermine the gallant efforts of the Warriors, with comments that have drawn the anger of scores of Zimbabwean football fans. Warriors’ Fans Comments On Mlambo’s Facebook Page: Tich Rango Virile You must apologise you fool. Kushinga Cedric Goto You are a disgrace. I’m giving u three alternatives i) Apologise ii) Resign iii) Resign and Apologise Take number three and I will talk to Zimbabweans to forgive your sorry soul. Nyasha Rovani What else can we expect from a school drop-out, a gay polygamist, an agent of Lucifer Thomas Mlambo, let’s forgive him, he needs the light of the word of God. Ludandu Maseko My brother, I used to respect you for your analysis but after your shameless, biased opinions against the high-riding Zimbabwe I no longer do. Marlone Chirara You are a disgrace to the football world, come to think of it you are in a country right next to us. Douglas Hamauswa Strikers win you matches and defenders win you trophies, hope you understand why we are in the semis, we scored when it mattered. Mauz Alexandre Sergi Maoneni Zim is being accused of painting Messi black and his hair red (Mahachi).I think you saw him scoring the second goal against Mali. Obert Muchena So you have the audacity to spew gibberish about Zimbabwe, ironically your neighbour, and absolutely nothing about Ghana who have exactly the same record @Chan as the Warriors? You have lost my respect Thomas. You are indeed a disgrace to Southern Africa. Jerry Mupfumi Messi Chamisa You are very foolish boy, SA failed to progress from the group stages of World Cup as the host nation making it the first ever country to do so. That shows you ain’t got talent, you are bunch of fools. You got many resources but our players utilise those few resources available. If our economy and management get back to normal, l tell you, Zim will be a force to reckon with. Haters help your helpless Bafana to prosper. Leave Zim alone, we played well and deserve to be in the semi-finals. Owen Magunje A bunch of losers! This is the same SA that we drubbed 4-1 in 1992. Zim we are a force to reckon with coz (our) players set the SA league alight. To make matters worse for haters, we will cruise past Libya on Wed and go all the way to thrash the Super Eagles in the final. Tadiwa Ninjae Sibanda Zim has got better talent than your so-called BUNCH OF LOSERS. You fool, you were thinking Zim will never win then God showed that he is for everyone not you only. Phumzile Sanganza Zimbabwe is in the semi-final and South Africa was knocked out so whether you like it or not we are the better side between the two .Thank God your opinion doesn’t matter when it comes to choosing the team which progresses to the next round. Next time keep your words soft in case you might be forced to swallow them. The Warriors of Zimbabwe are moving from glory to glory and you can go hang. Achievement Chimbwari Mlambo you should have analysed and assessed the performance of Zimbabwe in its draws and that last match we won 1-nill. We were dominating in all the matches and Uganda and Morocco even parked the bus against us. You have a right to your opinions, just don’t express them loudly if they are stupid and damaging to your person and profession. Mdhara Zvambu You are an idiot, a poor caricature, a hopelessly stupid poor excuse for a journalist, a bigoted pig, a bald headed baboon, Zimbabweans are far much better than you in every respect, keep your Bafana Bafana, that bunch of hopeless losers and let us keep our Warriors, that united group of proud gallant winners. Tichadya Mangwiro You are a disgrace Tommy boy, you showed your stupidity to your viewers. Pirates almost won African Champions League with draws and BaZim Zim would have qualified to the quarters without scoring. How can you express your stupid views in front of the cameras, on national TV for that matter? You don’t even deserve to live in a zoo because you are worse than an animal. Popopopopopo we will shoot them down uchida usingade.
