#textinthecitysg SUBMISSION OF THE WEEK The Gospel of Zouk by The Impossible Dandy Where the life-chasers, After a night at the food court, Stand under the strobe-lights To share shreds of tidings About romances, The resident raver, (Like that lao-jiao who’s always on the podium - Respect with an R) And that butterfly Who throws her hands up. With dauntless liberty they Marked their calendars, about tribal sabbaths, Unspoken rendezvous, while by some act of faith Turn up fashionably late. When speech impedes, Body language overrules: hand gesture, hair toss, Articulated movements snaking through orgies of Men, Women and between. And opened hearts around them embrace without bias - Their games of booze a resolve That there will be clean fun Of who is amorous, ambitious, Admirable. When they unleash Into an anthem, One accepts a generation Baptised in the sea of openness, And free from the scales of the public eye - And old-timers sit like prophets To foretell the lineup with calculated predictions. On the parapets, a DJ sways With the beat of the club’s heart And VIPs harbour, through Exclusive invites, the emblem of the chosen… As if blessed. A shrine to be worshiped, this, How in its resilience it celebrates youth. No surprises then, Why followers hold weekly commune, Back to sip from the fountain As if to quench their thirsts, To lead a life examined.
