the JOLLIBEE story... Tony Tan Caktiong was born in a poor family in FUJIAN province of China. They move here in the Philippines when his father was invited to open a restaurant in Davao. They had helped each other to manage the business and it turn to a success Allows Tony to go back to school in Manila, and pursue Chemical Engineering in UST In 1975, Tony visited Magnolia Ice cream plant in Q.C He saw the poster for franchising Magnolia ice cream, By the month of May he used his family savings to grab the franchise opportunity and open two magnolia ice cream parlor name CUBAO ICE CREAM HOUSE near Coronet Theater and the other one name QUIAPO ICE CREAM HOUSE Located in Quiapo near the bridge. They started to set up organization hired store managers and trained people. TWO YEARS later, He offered Hamburger sandwiches and chicken. 1978 they have 6 branches of ice cream parlor,they notice people are lining up for hamburgers than ice cream. They started to think of a brand name They decide to use BEE, Bee is a busy creature that produces honey – one of life’s sweetest things. They decided they would all be very busy and happy at the same time,so they put the word JOLLY and change Y to i JOLLIBEE Strategies Filipinos like to smell food,before they eat it. They did a advertisement of LANGHAP -SARAP campaign. They did it for the hamburger, and when it became successful, they started using it as a campaign slogan for the other products.” They Introduce new product like spaghetti. They have internal taste panel and they will comment it. Next step is consumer panel test,where customers will taste the product. They tested the product in a few stores. what’s the secret of Jollibee’s success, Tony says: “If you have to ask, the secret of Jollibee’s success is sharing. We share our success with people; we give good compensation; we share any honor that comes our way. Actually, this idea of sharing didn’t come from me. It came from a friend. He said: You know why you’re successful? You know how to share.
