the amount of water that a golf course requires is equivalent to the amount of water needed by a town of 12,000 people. In Greece they have a similar situation, where golf courses are proposed to be built in Natura 2000 sites and an MEP lodged a question.(europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.do?pubRef=-//EP//TEXT+WQ+E-2014-001218+0+DOC+XML+V0//EN) to the European Commission regarding this issue. I dont know whether the EC answer will affect the Cyprus case too.
