(the coptic admin) A real life event from an ex-muslim girl: My father constantly denounced the Islamophobia Western media has against Muslim women; how the media deceive the majority of people by telling them that Muslim women are oppressed, helpless victims who have no choice over things like the hijab for example, when in reality muslim women declare clearly they wear it by choice. During one of my fathers diatribes, I stopped him and asked: The hijab is my choice? And he replied: Of course!. And I replied: Then, I do not want to wear it anymore. As soon as I uttered these words, his behaviour has changed dramatically, as if a Pandoras box was opened from which sprang suddenly a flood of hateful nasty vile insults towards me.
