the heat on Holder is ratcheting upward. The House of Representatives has released a report showing that Holder flat-out lied to the U.S. Congress. The House Judiciary Committee report investigated the U.S. Justice Department’s (DOJ) ambitious probes over security leaks. In particular, it concentrated on the FBI affidavit requesting a search warrant for Fox News correspondent James Rosen‘s emails. The DOJ wanted to gain access to the emails, so they alleged that Rosen was a likely criminal “co-conspirator” in a leak case. They cited the Espionage Act as justification. On May 15, Attorney General Holder assured the House Judiciary Committee that he hadn’t been a party to any effort to prosecute newsmen. He said specifically: “With regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material, that is not something that I have ever been involved, heard of, or would think would be a wise policy.” This was controversial at the time because of efforts by the DOJ to obtain and review the phone records of the Associated Press reporters on Capitol Hill.
