the more linear a story is, the less choices a player has. i believe that linearity, in general, is a bad thing for video games as an art form, whose central theme is interactivity! so, as a rule of thumb: if a games story can be easily converted into a movie or a novel, then it isnt as good as it could be. though it is common practice to have cinematic storytelling in games, it will be impossible for us to emerge from the youth of the medium if we dont try something new!
