the tragedy of a free and fair electoral system in any democracy - TopicsExpress

the tragedy of a free and fair electoral system in any democracy ,without exception more so in this country is that people who entertain people get elected by virtue of their popularity with mediocrity and more often than not people with murky pasts, tax evaders, anti-social agendas, and plain history-sheeters with their own agendas, quite often capable of protecting offenders of law and order or in ca-hoots with the criminal world get elected to offices of public responsibility more out of their hench-men and muscle power and power of ill-gotten money, such people when they come to power have hidden agendas for proliferation of their activity, lacking in vision and a broad outlook of outgoing concern for the common folks, they use-up public funds for selfish ends instead of in the interest of public causes, this is the tragedy of the times and it springs from a electoral system that is more populistic in content than service-oriented. the incursion of film-actors,scum of society, people with redoubtable pasts, people who have gained popularity for wrong reasons, all these elements enter into the hallowed portals of democracy only to pollute it with their hidden agendas thus denigrating the very process of choosing the exceptionally service minded people who will refuse to come forward because of their proclivity to avoid situations. this is the lacuna of democracy where by virtue of their ignorance and negative quotient elements inimical to national priorities dilute the process of reformative, constructive, nation building. hence I maintain that free and fair elections [so-called] in this country is the bane of development and progress and largely responsible for the poor state of our nation-building activity and our present state of poor governance.
