think about this - 100years ago grandad was living in a tent village in the bush in the King Country ( untamed virgin country). He had migrated to nz - had all his money stolen on landing in Wellington and after some effort got himself a bushmans job with a gang hand cutting native timber - he had left his lovely fiance in London (grandma) the daughter of a wealthy upper class industrialist and lost touch with her - no wonder he volunteered to serve on Gallipoli. He being the son of a gas worker wasnt acceptable and hence the plan to live in NZ . I have the photos of him welding the axe and the camp he was in . WW1 had just started and had got in the way of plans . He entered service and training early in 1915 and embarked for Cairo via Perth in July as part of the second echelon - Wellington infantry brigade - a medic he saw the worst once there. Think about all that has changed in 100years
