this is my abstract can you please give feedback? thanks in advance: The purpose for my study is to understand why African American women struggle with beauty issues related to their natural hair texture. I have narrowed the possibilities down to four key explanations as to why I believe African American women struggle with beauty issues that relate to their natural hair. It is my belief that understanding the reasons can bring about change, change will trigger pride in the African American community. Pride will allow a natural healthy approach to hair and how its undeniably unique beauty is viewed. I believe the number one culprit to be history. Our history will always be our foundation, and in order to promote growth in the future we must acknowledge the possibility of change now. The second contributor is, societal stereotyping. Social norms play a large role in our culture, which is why we mimic our history while echoing our future. This is exactly how hegemony landed itself as number three on the enlightenment to the struggle. We are a technology driven culture that has only just begun to evolve in the social media era, which brings me to number four, media. Media plays a significant role in what societal norms classify as acceptable beauty. Trend setters have always been pioneers forging on to a better tomorrow but they also effect self-esteem and forward thinking. African American women are struggling with beauty issues related to their hair, after the barriers are removed we can acknowledge as a whole the true beauty that is them. In conclusion I believe there needs to be a realistic promotion of alternatives to media for the promotion of healthy African American hair, such as natural African American women and children being displayed with curly kinky hair.
