this was posted in my towns official fb group. Crazy. Heavy snow with significant winds, blizzard conditions and snowfalls up to 30” are still being forecast through tomorrow. The Governor has declared a state of emergency and a travel ban on all roads in effect beginning at 9:00 PM tonight. Town Hall is closed tomorrow and a decision as to whether to open on Wednesday will be made later tomorrow. The Town’s three firehouses have been designated as warming centers and are available for short-term shelter (warming, charging phones, getting water, etc.). Pleasant Valley and Barkhamsted East Fire Departments will be staffed tonight and tomorrow, and Riverton will open tomorrow. For emergencies, call 911. If you need help for more routine matters, you may call the firehouses at: Pleasant Valley 860-379-0026 Barkhamsted East 860-379-6598 Riverton 860-379-7473 If we are able to open Town Hall, there is a generator and it can also be used as a warming center. If there are extended power outages, we will open the shelter at the Barkhamsted School, but will not make that decision until the need for a shelter is better known.
