three letters to and from veterans this veterans day... Memories come to us In many ways and from many sources. I am on my way to Houston, Tx. To go to an appreicaton day at my Granddaughters request for for 2nd grade class on Monday.. She called me last week and told me that they could invite any relative who was a veteran to attend. How could one refuse such a request. But I doubt they know the memories and emotions such an inviation stirs. But this might be a better memory to have……… Jim Bealer Well GIs’ My first Grandson wanted to join the Marines and I talked him out of that idea. I tried to get him into the Air Force or Navy. He has moved in with us for over four months now. He decided on the Army last month and would like to be a RANGER. Good luck with what I know of him and training. LOL. He will go for the big physical next week in Honolulu and if he passes will come home and wait on his call for basic training. I do have mixed feelings about all of it on one hand and then I believe it is what he needs to get a jump start of his life in limbo today. I just love him and pray wishing him luck with life and hope God will take care of him... My most depressing time is from Thanksgiving to sometime after New Year, occasionally manic . Thank God for a great wife that subject. Anyways, good to hear form all of you guys doing well this Veterans day. I am in my yard working on the garden and fruit trees. Latter, mike Gosh, Michael, how old are you? My oldest grandchild just turned 15. :-) I, too, have misgivings about your grandsons plan. I fear we have entered a time of perpetual war. . .large or small. . . and most of the shoulder patches I see in news spots from Afghanistan are 25th Infantry or 101st Airborne. God be with him. Then I often think that the school bus should pull up to the curb one more time. . .the morning after high school graduation. . .to cart all the new graduates off to two years of mandatory public service. . .whether it be the military, Peace Corp, VISTA, whatever. They need to be taken away from home so they can learn to feed themselves, count money, and do their own laundry. Then, they will be more mature and better prepared for whatever career path they choose. Im also thankful for Michaels wife. . .and all our wives. . .this veterans holiday . Bill is the most stable among us. He was married before he went over and returned to a rock-solid family. That makes all the difference. There are a lot of heroes around these days, but you guys were my heroes. . .when no one was a hero. Thank you for your friendship and service, Leo PS: garden and fruit trees? Snow expected here Tue.
