tl;dr - Taste of Research is super fun. They claim its only for third years or exceptional second years, but I know of first years whove gotten in, too. I did it at the end of my second year, and it was an incredible experience. Get paid $500/week tax free to do research this summer! Details are below. But you dont have long to apply, so dont put it off... -------- Have you ever wondered what research is about ? Or whether you would be interested in a research career ? To give you an opportunity to find out, the Faculty of Engineering has established the Taste of Research Summer Scholarships ELIGIBILITY - You must be a high achieving 3rd year undergraduate student enrolled in a full time program (2nd year students may be considered under special circumstances) - You must be enrolled in a relevant program at UNSW or another Australian University - You must submit an online application by August 22nd - You may be a local or international student * Students undertaking a combined undergraduate degree ( eg BE/BE, BE/ COM) may apply if entering their final year of study in 2014. This exemption does not apply to students enrolled in BE/MBiom. BENEFITS - $500 per week allowance (tax exempt) - UNSW Bachelor of Engineering Students may use their Taste of Research Summer Scholarship as a contribution towards their Industrial Training requirement. SELECTION -Each applicant will be assessed on the basis of academic merit, interest in undertaking research activities, and intended career plans AVAILABILITY - The scholarships are available in a variety of research areas for a period of 12 weeks, November 24th 2014 to February 21st 2015.
