I met them on a trip of visiting a young boy named bé Ơn. Located in the midle of a field, their “house” is a torn tent in which sky is showing through and walls’re slanted. These walls were made out of tarp-tent, which wind is airy moving contantly in and out. There is nothing furnished inside, just a 2 “so called beds” ( wickered and airry cold ) and an old table. And that was it, nothing else is valuable. The old and sick 85 yrs old man lying on that bed is taking care by his 82 yrs wife, is also very weak. Through a conversation, the old woman cryingly told me that their survival is depending on the neighbors, a few cup of rice here and there. With the social welfare for the elderly as 6.5 USd / mo per person (130.000 VNd / mo) , which is nearly nothing at all. Her husband had been very sick, keeps lying on the bed, not walking nor moving at all. They don’t have any property, the land that their tent sitting on is belong to some else. The poor situation is continuing “glued” to their lives. When asking about their children, they told me that “since they’re getting old and weaken, and couldn’t produce any goods; their children had been neglecting them!” Isn’t it true that the more the society gearing toward the high-tech life, the more the cruelty it become? Where are people’s hearts in this modern society? Is there anything angrier than a child had forgotten his/her parent’s born and nourishment? I left them with a sad-full mind. The raining season is just around the corner… How are they going to survive with that torn roof and windy- slipping- walls- tent ? ?
