to my mind, the evidence from modern neuroscience and cognitive psych are pretty damning in favor of mind-body materialism or something like it. the libet experiment and its variants are one piece, and theres plenty of work showing that brain damage, surgical intervention, chemicals, and even strong magnetic fields can effect profound changes in memory, personality, or decision making. these are all things that are hard to explain on some kind of substance dualism, which (it seems) is relegated to flowing like a liquid, filling in whatever gaps it thinks are left by materialism. the million dollar question: is there actually any EVIDENCE in favor of mind-body dualism? do dualistic theories explain data that materialistic ones do not? do they make predictions? in fact, have any dualists actually risen to the occasion of formulating a bona fide scientific theory?
