#tristatewx February 6, 2014: Brrrrrr morning, everyone :) Winter continues and appears to hold on well into next week. Thick clouds and snow have kept temperatures a bit warmer overnight (I am using that word loosely). As of 6 am, it is 12 degrees here at the Weather Observatory. Clouds tend to keep temperatures from falling as much as they would under clear sky conditions. So, that is your good news of the morning. But, dont leave the coat, mittens, or hat at home. Temperatures wont rise much today. Expect mostly teens for high temperatures. Some light winds will keep wind chill values in the single digits. It is going to feel, once again, like winter! Imagine that. Snow showers and flurries have continued overnight into this morning. As a matter of fact it is snowing here at my place as I type this! These are some beautiful snowflakes. You might not know that there are many different kind of snowflakes. Stellar Dendrites have been falling since last evening. These are wonderfully intricate classic snowflakes. Take a closer look at them if you have time. A series of weak disturbances will move through the region over the coming days. Each one could produce flurries or light snow. Occasionally one of the disturbances could produce enough snow to dust the ground. A strong system is possible early next week. Uncertainty surround that particular event. If one of the disturbances moving through the area happens to be a tad stronger than forecast then it could produce an inch or two of snow in some spots. This will need to be monitored. Keep that in mind. Forecast... Today - Cloudy - feels like winter - flurries or light snow from time to time. Highs only in the teens. Northwest winds at 5-10 mph. Wind chills in the single digits. Tonight - Cloudy - cold - Flurries at time. Lows in the single digits. North winds at 5-10 mph. Friday - Partly to mostly cloudy. A few flurries possible. Highs in the 20s. North winds at 5-10 mph. Friday night - Cloudy with some snow showers possible. Cold. Lows in the teens. Saturday - Cloudy with a few light snow showers. Highs will be in the lower 30s. South wind at 10 mph. Winds may turn northwest late in the day and become gusty. I will post some links below
